‘The Toucan and the Dragon’

Inspired by a recent visit to the Iguazu Falls, I sought to create a composition that evokes a sense of Genesis. Standing before the cascading waters, one cannot help but be mesmerized by the immense power of nature; the sheer volume and force of the water are awe-inspiring.

To amplify this primal energy, I juxtaposed the element of water with fire, introducing the suggestion of a dragon breathing flames from its nostrils on the left side of the painting. A toucan gazes into the scene, a silent observer of these elemental forces, while the composition is infused with a dynamic, circular motion—rotating prisms of light and a paper airplane in flight accentuate this sense of movement.

As in much of my work, I included a butterfly known as the “88” (named for the markings on its wings) to symbolize fragility. Its delicate presence contrasts sharply with the immense power and grandeur of the waterfalls, highlighting the intricate balance of nature’s might and vulnerability.
